Verso Artecontemporanea’s new exhibiting season opens with Me and Madame
Iran, a solo show featuring the works of Iranian artist Maryam Amini.
Two series of works are due to be displayed – the set of big format canvases (2010),
Maryam Amini extremely fragile, Please handle with careand the collection of works on cardboard after which the exhibition is named, Me and Madame Iran (2009).
The title of the most recent collection – purposely autobiographical – refers to the
indications usually placed on parcels containing fragile objects; namely, personal belongings intimately meaningful for the artist.
Me and Madame Iran is the artist’s pun on the double meaning of the word Iran. It refers to both the nation and a female protagonist thus named.
In both sets of works the artist’s expression is free, both technically and in terms of
subjects represented. Painting is combined with collage and ready-made; objects of daily use share room with imaginary and abstract shapes.
Facing Maryam Amini’s works, the viewer is overwhelmed by a feeling of exaltation and ferment, carried into a journey among discordant elements in a vortex of colors, winding lines, wrapping shapes and compositions scattered on the white background of the canvas.
The painting of the Iranian artist is conceived from the mind of a free spirit rather
Than conceptual issues and this is clear at first sight. The action and creativity of
Painting cover a key role in the search of new combinations and solutions that
Surprise the viewer and especially the artist herself.
Maryam’s paintings show introspection as well as hints to the outside world, the city and the daily routine. Such range of references opens up to a spectrum of further hints, stimulating the viewers towards their own free interpretation.
The observation of her pictures leads to the intuition of how most of Maryam Amini’s eff
ort and action aim to the achievement of a narration free of obstacles towards the horizons of the mind.
